Basketball Recap: Shafter Makes It 17 in a Row at Home

Shafter waltzed into their match on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They claimed a resounding 63-18 win over the Delano Tigers. Given the Generals' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Tigers are ranked 1167th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shafter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isela Lugo, who went 8 for 15 en route to 18 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Another player making a difference was Alexia Ramirez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Shafter's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.8 points per game. As for Delano, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Shafter will be playing at home against Chavez at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Delano, they will welcome Wasco at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
