Folsom's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryder Lyons led the charge by throwing for 201 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 57 yards. Lyons is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last six games he's played. Osais Bolton was another key back, rushing for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Folsom was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Folsom didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jason Hill Jr. and Daniel Eagleton. Folsom got some further help from Dylan Wolfe: he picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles (2.5 for loss).
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Monterey Trail's strategy against Inderkum on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mustangs blew the Tigers out of the water with a 45-3 final score. With the Mustangs ahead 24-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Monterey Trail found their leader in freshman Nigel Flowers, who rushed for 153 yards and one score on only ten carries. Those 153 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Flowers. Another player making a difference was Xander McKee, who rushed for 76 yards and one TD on only nine carries.
One reason for the win was Monterey Trail's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Subhan Barakzai refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Brent Minnifield Jr got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Monterey Trail's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Folsom, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Everything came up roses for Folsom against Monterey Trail in their previous meeting back in August of 2023, as the team secured a 35-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
