Baseball Recap: Hoopeston Comes Up Short

Hoopeston had lost six straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 6-13 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Armstrong Trojans by a score of 2-0. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Brayden Cornelius spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks.

As for Armstrong, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

On Armstrong's side, the result came thanks to Ryan Edwards's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks. Edwards has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Armstrong's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Becket Moran, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Looking ahead, Hoopeston will venture away from home to challenge Milford at 4:30 p.m. on the 19th. As for Armstrong, they will take on LeRoy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
