Basketball Recap: Aptos Continues Home Dominance on Monday

There's no place like home for Aptos, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. It was close, but on Mondaythey capped 2024 with a 43-41 victory over the Summit Shasta Black Bears. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mariners also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Aptos' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Berkeley Ashby, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Those 19 points gave Ashby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eliya Chavez, who posted nine points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Summit Shasta still got an impressive performance from Niesha Ramirez, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Lew, who put up four points and three steals.

Aptos pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Summit Shasta, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Aptos didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-28 loss against Christopher on the 3rd. As for Summit Shasta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 52-38 win against South San Francisco on the 4th.
