Recap: Mammoth Huskies vs. Carlin Railroaders
The Mammoth Huskies's three-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They had just enough and edged Carlin out 33-31. The win was just what Mammoth needed coming off of a 72-18 defeat in their prior match.
Mammoth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nicole Smyth led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight steals. Smyth is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Audrey Borunda was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Carlin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mariah Urenda, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Urenda set a new season high mark in points with 12. The team also got some help courtesy of Caileigh Shilts, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Mammoth's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Carlin, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Mammoth will be playing in front of their home fans against Rosamond at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Rosamond presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mammoth in California (Rosamond is ranked 470th, while Mammoth is ranked 1021st). Carlin is on the road again on Friday and play against Round Mountain at 11:00 a.m. on December 15th.
