Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Pumas vs. Murrieta Mesa Rams

The Chaparral Pumas will head out to face off against the Murrieta Mesa Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chaparral is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.

Chaparral saw some tournament action last Saturday. They fell to Trabuco Hills 43-39.

Despite the loss, Chaparral saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zetta Faasua dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Faasua's afternoon made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexa Ava Li, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Murrieta Mesa). They walked away with a 57-50 win over Linfield Christian on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rams' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Chaparral's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Murrieta Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Chaparral beat Murrieta Mesa 46-33 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Does Chaparral have another victory up their sleeve, or will Murrieta Mesa turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
