Baseball Game Preview: Avon Orioles vs. Ben Davis Giants

The Avon Orioles will challenge the Ben Davis Giants at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Avon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Avon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Pike. The win was familiar territory for the Orioles, who have now won three games in a row.

Rylee Crain was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Avon: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 10-14-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Bland, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Avon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Ben Davis lost 7-1 to Lawrence North last Wednesday. The Giants have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ben Davis handed starting duties to Ajani Anderson, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.

Ben Davis' loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Avon, the victory got them back to even at 15-15-1.

Avon got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Ben Davis by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
