Football Recap: Williams Valley Starts Season with Victory at Home

Williams Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They blew past the Upper Dauphin Area Trojans, posting a 54-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Williams Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brady Shomper, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 110 yards and two TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. What's more, Shomper racked up 157.4 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Fletcher Thompson was in the mix as well, providing Williams Valley with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Williams Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Williams Valley, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Evan Achenbach, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Williams Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 42-0 victory against Mahanoy Area on the 29th. As for Upper Dauphin Area, they have also already played their next contest, a 39-0 defeat against Halifax on the 29th.
