Football Recap: Gatesville Wins Going Away Against Lorena + How To Watch

Gatesville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lorena, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 45-21 margin over the Leopards on Friday. With the Hornets ahead 28-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Cy Burns continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 258 yards and five TDs while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Those 258 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Gatesville also got help from Amos Phillips, who showed off his sure hands for 106 receiving yards.

Gatesville's run defense was locked in: Lorena could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. The Hornets' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 2.25 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 4.33 on average over their last five games.

Several Leopards players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxon Blancett, who threw for 375 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one rushing score. Zachary Espinoza was Blancett's top target, picking up 138 receiving yards and one score.

Gatesville's record now sits at 6-1. As for Lorena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
