Basketball Preview: Hughesville Spartans vs. Towanda Black Knights
The Hughesville Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Towanda Black Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hughesville will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against the RED TORNADOES recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hughesville walked away with a 49-36 win over the RED TORNADOES. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the RED TORNADOES are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alli Anstadt continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Ava Snyder was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Towanda strolled past the Griffins with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 47-33. That looming 47-33 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Towanda yet this season.
Hughesville's win bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Towanda, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Hughesville was able to grind out a solid victory over the Black Knights when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 44-36. Will Hughesville repeat their success, or do the Black Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
