Briarwood Academy is 1-9 against Brentwood since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers will host the Brentwood War Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Briarwood Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Briarwood Academy and John Hancock Academy had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Briarwood Academy fell just short of John Hancock Academy by a score of 2-1 on Friday. The match marked the Buccaneers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
John Hancock Academy's batters probably weren't too happy with Carson Chalker, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 17 Ks (he gave up zero walks). Chalker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Briarwood Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Callaway, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That hit was Callaway's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Brentwood made easy work of Windsor Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 17-7 victory. The win continues a trend for the War Eagles in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Grady Boutelle was a standout: he scored two runs while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Abe Williams, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Brentwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Briarwood Academy now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Brentwood, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Briarwood Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brentwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Briarwood Academy came up short against Brentwood in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Will Briarwood Academy have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
