Elkhorn South and Papillion-LaVista South are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2018, but likely not for long. The Storm will host the Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Elkhorn South is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Lincoln Southwest, who was ranked third at the time (Elkhorn South was ranked 16th). The Storm came up short against the Silver Hawks on Monday, falling 11-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Storm, who until this contest were averaging 3.96 runs allowed.
Saoirse Park and Ollie Songster did some serious damage despite the final result: Park went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Songster went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Millard North hit Papillion-LaVista South with a seven-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Titans lost 13-4 to the Mustangs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Titans have suffered against the Mustangs since October 5, 2022.
Alexa Epley made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Sidney Vollmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Elkhorn South's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9. As for Papillion-LaVista South, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elkhorn South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. However, it's not like Papillion-LaVista South struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elkhorn South suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Papillion-LaVista South in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
