Softball Recap: St. Joseph's Academy Takes a Loss

St. Joseph's Academy had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 6-9 to make it five. They lost 11-0 to the Westminster Christian Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Angels' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Westminster Christian, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Westminster Christian's part, Charlie Berkmeyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Berkmeyer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Bell, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Abby Milgie was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph's Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Francis Borgia at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
