Football Game Preview: Triad Knights vs. Mascoutah Indians

Triad is 8-2 against Mascoutah since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Knights will head out to challenge the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Triad will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

Triad had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt Highland on Friday. The Knights put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 42-22 win. That looming 42-22 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Knights yet this season.

Triad found their leader in sophomore John Holloway, who rushed for 189 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 189 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Holloway.

Triad was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Triad didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kannon Seipp and Dawson Deatherage.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah entered their tilt with Jersey on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 35-16 victory over the Panthers.

Triad better keep an eye on Sean Murphy. He was instrumental in Mascoutah's win, rushing for 209 yards and three scores. Murphy's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 11th straight game with at least 112 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Triad now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Mascoutah, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.

Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jacob Odle and Murphy. Odle just won't slow down this season and has run in 4 touchdowns while averaging 77 rushing yards per game. Murphy has been a dominant force too and has run in 9 touchdowns while averaging 178.8 rushing yards per game.

Triad strolled past Mascoutah in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 37-22. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Indians' Baruk Jonsson, who rushed for 88 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, and also threw for 184 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Knights to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
