Baseball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland managed to slip by Columbia the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bulldogs lost 15-5 to the Eagles on Tuesday.

Tyler Mehrtens made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Highland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 5-19 when he doesn't). Grayson Stone also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Highland has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20 record this season. As for Columbia, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will challenge Civic Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbia, they will take on Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
