Highland came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the South Shelby Cardinals a 20-0 shutout. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Abby Lay made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addy Abell, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ali Lundberg was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.

Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Highland's record is now 12-3. As for South Shelby, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
