Basketball Recap: Burroughs Takes a Loss

Burroughs and Cerritos squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Burroughs had to settle for second. They fell 50-42 to the Cerritos Dons.

When it comes to explaining why Burroughs lost, don't look at Jhavmine Ave. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Ave is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 21 games she's played. Estrella Ruiz Zamorano was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Burroughs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Burroughs' loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Cerritos, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-15 record this season.

Burroughs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cerritos, they will host Culver City at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Culver City sitting on nine straight victories and Cerritos on eight.
