Basketball Recap: Kiera Canchola's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lakeside over La Quinta

Lakeside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 39-28 to the La Quinta Blackhawks. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-15 back in November.

Lakeside lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kiera Canchola, who posted seven points. Elise Henderson was another key player, putting up six points along with six boards and five steals.

La Quinta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 18 points and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Castro-Galarza has scored at least a third of La Quinta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Barrow, who had five points in addition to eight boards, six assists, and six steals.

Lakeside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for La Quinta, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Lakeside will be taking part in a tournament against Desert Chapel at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Lakeside is facing Desert Chapel at the right time seeing as Desert Chapel is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for La Quinta, they will take on Calipatria in a tournament on Monday.
