Basketball Recap: Bishop Amat Takes a Loss

After flying high against Ramona Convent last Thursday, Bishop Amat came back down to earth. The Bishop Amat Lancers took a blow against the Saint Joseph Jesters on Saturday, falling 71-26. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Jesters are ranked 95th).

Despite the loss, Bishop Amat saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lily Harris posted three points and five rebounds. Harris is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.

Even though they lost, Bishop Amat smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Saint Joseph got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bella Harmon out in front who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 15 boards, and ten assists. Alana White was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Bishop Amat's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Saint Joseph, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Bishop Amat has already played their next matchup, a 53-43 loss against Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary on the 21st. As for Saint Joseph, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-61 defeat against Centennial on the 20th.
