Baseball Recap: Fruita Monument Finds Playoff Glory Versus Douglas County

With a playoff win on the line, Fruita Monument rose to the challenge on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Douglas County Huskies 12-11. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Josh Weaver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fruita Monument is 8-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Weaver was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Asa Alfstad was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Fruita Monument was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fruita Monument's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Douglas County, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-9.

As of now, neither Fruita Monument nor the Huskies have any future games scheduled.
