Baseball Recap: Waupaca Comes Up Short

Waupaca extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 12-9. They lost 7-1 to the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-6 on Tuesday.

As for Luxemburg-Casco, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Luxemburg-Casco's part, Gavin Lax made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Lax has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Jacob Coisman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Dachelet, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waupaca will host Sheboygan Falls on Thursday. As for Luxemburg-Casco, they will be playing at home against Algoma at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
