Basketball Preview: Madison Warhawks vs. Coronado Islanders

Having just played yesterday, the Madison Warhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Coronado Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Monday, Madison was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-41 to the Jaguars.

Madison's defeat came about despite a quality game from Amyaha Walker, who scored 29 points. That was a full 70.7% of Madison's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sierra Minshew was another key contributor, scoring eight points.

Meanwhile, Coronado came up short against the Buccaneers on Friday and fell 38-26.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Susanna Pate, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Selena Herrera, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Madison's record now sits at 15-8. Coronado's record now sits at 3-12.

Tuesday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Madison have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Madison against the Islanders when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 50-15 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Madison since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
