Football Game Preview: Rock Creek Mustangs vs. Clay Center Tigers

The Rock Creek Mustangs will face off against the Clay Center Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Creek will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

If Clay Center heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Rock Creek took over last week. The Mustangs took down Abilene 28-14 on Friday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Cowboys are ranked 86th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Zion Bell was his usual excellent self, rushing for 248 yards and two scores. Those 248 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Bell was just one part of a punishing run game: Rock Creek was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clay Center). They breezed past Chapman to the tune of 44-8 on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Irish recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Rock Creek's record now sits at 4-0. As for Clay Center, their record is now 3-1.

Rock Creek took their win against Clay Center in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 21-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
