Baseball Game Preview: Therrell Panthers vs. Washington Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Therrell will face off against Washington. The Panthers will head out to take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Therrell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Therrell took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Washington as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Jaylen Dumas looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Therrell is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Terrance Jackson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Therrell's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Christian Goza, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Therrell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .844. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Therrell's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Therrell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've averaged .532. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
