Football Recap: Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack vs. St. Mary's Cardinals        
        
		
             Elgin/Pope John was the  50-0 winner over St. Mary when they last played one another  back in October of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack were dealt  a  68-28 defeat at the hands of the St. Mary's Cardinals on Friday. The Wolfpack have now  taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
 Elgin/Pope John lost  despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being   Grady Drueke, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
  Gage Hedstrom was  his usual excellent self, rushing for 140 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also throwing for 136 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes for St. Mary's. Hedstrom's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 119  rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was  Ben Barlow, who picked up 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
 Elgin/Pope John's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for St. Mary's,  the  win also got them back to even at 3-3.
 Elgin/Pope John will head out on the road to  take on  Neligh-Oakdale  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Elgin/Pope John is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 40.3  points per game  this season. As for St. Mary's, they will face off against North Central at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. St. Mary's is facing North Central at the right time seeing as North Central is stuck on  a  six-game losing streak.
