Softball Recap: Gridley Gets the Win

Gridley lost to Colusa back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the RedHawks 9-7.

Kaydenze Pruitt made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed 1.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Delanie Cloyd was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Malayna Ceballos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Gridley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Gridley's record is now 5-2. As for Colusa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Gridley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Marysville at 4:00 p.m. on the 27th. As for Colusa, they are taking a road trip to challenge West Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The RedHawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season.
