Basketball Preview: St. Joseph Spartans vs. Leechburg Blue Devils
St. Joseph is 8-2 against the Blue Devils since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The St. Joseph Spartans will be playing at home against the Leechburg Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. St. Joseph knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matches -- so hopefully the Blue Devils like a good challenge.
Even though Redbank Valley scored an imposing 59 points on Wednesday, St. Joseph still came out on top. St. Joseph took their match against the Bulldogs 68-59.
Julie Spinelli continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Kreinbrook, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Leechburg was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 34-33 to the Saints.
St. Joseph's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Leechburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Everything came up roses for St. Joseph against the Blue Devils when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 67-19 win. Will St. Joseph repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
