Football Game Preview: Delta Eagles vs. New Castle Trojans

Delta is 8-2 against New Castle since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will welcome the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Delta will be strutting in after a win while New Castle will be coming in after a loss.

Delta is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Mt. Vernon with a sharp 40-20 victory on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their seven-point performance the contest before.

Aven Thomas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 104.4 rushing yards per game.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Delta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Delta's defense stepped up as well, laying out Mason Meyer. five times. Cole Mynett was especially locked on to Mt. Vernon's QB and sacked him twice.

Meanwhile, New Castle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 44-6 loss at the hands of Yorktown. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-6.

Delta's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for New Castle, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Delta has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for New Castle, though, as they've been averaging only 68.6 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
