Basketball Recap: Sidney Medellin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Loyalton

Hayfork hadn't done well against Loyalton recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Hayfork Timberjacks skirted past the Loyalton Grizzlies 49-47. For the Timberjacks, this counts as revenge for the 56-18 victory the Grizzlies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.

Hayfork's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sidney Medellin, who posted 14 points and four steals. Medellin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Bayley, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Hayfork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Catherine Petterson, who earned 13 points along with four steals and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie Petterson, who put up 15 points and four steals.

Hayfork's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Loyalton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Hayfork didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-54 defeat against Biggs on the 21st. As for Loyalton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 31-27 loss against Paradise on the 20th.
