Recap: Grand Terrace Titans vs. Carpinteria Warriors
With a playoff game on the line, the Grand Terrace Titans rose to the challenge on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 39-37 victory over the Warriors. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Grand Terrace.
Leading Grand Terrace to victory were Mikhia Anderson and Jayleen Barajas. Anderson scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Barajas scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Barajas is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Carpinteria's loss came despite strong showings from Jamaica Cook and Penny Wrought. Cook dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Wrought scored eight points along with six rebounds. That was a full 43.2% of Carpinteria's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Isabella Velasquez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Carpinteria were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Grand Terrace has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. As for Carpinteria, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Grand Terrace is on the road again on Wednesday and plays Colton at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Carpinteria does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
