Football Game Preview: Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars vs. Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers + How To Watch

The Shawnee Mission Northwest Cougars will head out to face off against the Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Shawnee Mission Northwest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 38-31 win over Lawrence Free State. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gardner-Edgerton). They blew past Olathe North, posting a 63-35 victory. The Trailblazers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Shawnee Mission Northwest better keep an eye on Syre Padilla. He was instrumental in Gardner-Edgerton's win, rushing for 333 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry. Padilla's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 141 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Gardner-Edgerton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 577 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Shawnee Mission Northwest's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Gardner-Edgerton, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.

Shawnee Mission Northwest couldn't quite finish off Gardner-Edgerton in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 and fell 28-26. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
