Baseball Game Preview: Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles vs. William Penn Colonials

The Hodgson Vo-Tech Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the William Penn Colonials at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.

On Tuesday, Hodgson Vo-Tech came up short against Woodbridge and fell 6-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, William Penn got themselves on the board against Milford on Saturday, but Milford never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Buccaneers. Considering the Colonials have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Jaedin Maichle made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for William Penn: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Anthony Cheyney and Michael Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Cheyney went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Baker went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. That double was Cheyney's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Justin Weidner, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

William Penn is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Hodgson Vo-Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Hodgson Vo-Tech suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to William Penn when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
