Preview: Athens Wildcats vs. Wellsboro Hornets
Athens has been on the road for seven straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Wellsboro Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Athens lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 46-16 loss at the hands of Williamson. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Athens has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Wellsboro opened the new year with a less-than-successful 30-22 loss to North Penn-Mansfield. Wellsboro has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Athens' loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Wellsboro, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Athens strolled past Wellsboro when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a score of 44-29. Will Athens repeat their success, or does Wellsboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
