Baseball Recap: Kennesaw Mountain Drops Season-High Score on Pebblebrook

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kennesaw Mountain). They blew past the Pebblebrook Falcons 27-1 on Thursday. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Austin Carter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Carter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Aaron Higgins was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jake Phelps, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Kennesaw Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pebblebrook struck out seven times.

Kennesaw Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Pebblebrook and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kennesaw Mountain will challenge Osborne at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. Osborne has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.33 runs per game on average), something Kennesaw Mountain will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pebblebrook, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Pebblebrook Falcons challenge Riverside Military Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
