Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. Northgate Broncos

Mt. Diablo is 2-8 against Northgate since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Mt. Diablo Red Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Northgate Broncos at 7:00 p.m. Mt. Diablo will be strutting in after a win while Northgate will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Mt. Diablo got the win against Concord by a conclusive 53-33. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Bears are ranked 895th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Northgate's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 58-43 bruising from Clayton Valley Charter.

Mt. Diablo will have to keep a close watch on Maddison Sardelich and Samantha Myhr, a pair of players who had a big impact on Northgate's prior game. Sardelich dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Myhr posted 15 points and six boards. Sardelich is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hana Neuman, who had nine points.

Northgate's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Mt. Diablo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10.

Mt. Diablo was able to grind out a solid win over Northgate in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 63-53. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Northgate's Amelia Schrag, who put up 29 points along with seven boards and three blocks.
