Softball Game Preview: Montgomery County Wildcats vs. Louisiana Bulldogs

The Montgomery County Wildcats will take on the Louisiana Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Montgomery County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Montgomery County's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Van-Far as they made off with an 18-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Reese Hill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Montgomery County let Hailey Meyer and Sam Turner run wild. Meyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBI, while Turner went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Meyer has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jillian Weekley, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Montgomery County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Louisiana, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Hannibal on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.

Montgomery County's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Louisiana, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Montgomery County came out on top in a nail-biter against Louisiana when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
