Softball Recap: Auburn Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Auburn won against Fairbury on Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over Southern/Diller-Odell. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Alayna Helms spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Auburn let Bree Wehenkel and Morgan Stanley run wild. Wehenkel went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Stanley went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave Wehenkel a new career-high. Addison Darnell was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Auburn was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern/Diller-Odell only posted a batting average of .214.

The win was the third in a row for Auburn, bringing their record up to 12-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Southern/Diller-Odell, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Auburn will take on Westview at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southern/Diller-Odell, they will take on Malcolm in a tournament on Saturday.
