Baseball Recap: Saranac Lake Comes Up Short

Saranac Lake extended their losing streak to four on Sunday, dropping them down to 1-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northeastern Clinton Cougars. The Red Storm were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

As for Northeastern Clinton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games.

For Northeastern Clinton's part, Robert McIntyre was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave McIntyre a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cobe Lafountain, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jacob Perkins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Saranac Lake does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northeastern Clinton, they will challenge Richford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rockets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.67 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
