Sonoraville proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Union County Panthers 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Phoenix sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Lila Mullinax looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Peyton Angel was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Marley Hall was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Sonoraville's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Union County, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Sonoraville is set to square off against their familiar foe Rockmart at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Phoenix 1.8, the Yellowjackets 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Union County will challenge rival Ringgold at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
