Basketball Recap: Great Oak Takes a Loss

Great Oak was the 61-57 winner over Vista Murrieta when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Great Oak Wolfpack took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vista Murrieta Broncos on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Great Oak lost, don't look at Brianna Thomas. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zemoni Wilkins, who had five points and 11 boards.

Vista Murrieta was led to victory by Alana Burnett and Jordyn Smith. Burnett almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, while Smith earned 13 points along with eight boards and four steals. Burnett has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Alyssa Newby was another key player, putting up ten points and five assists.

Great Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Vista Murrieta, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-9.

Great Oak has already played their next match, a 58-52 loss against Victory Christian Academy on the 11th. As for Vista Murrieta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-52 defeat against Murrieta Valley on the 15th.
