Basketball Game Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. Ramona Bulldogs

The Escondido Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Ramona Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Escondido will be strutting in after a victory while Ramona will be coming in after a loss.

Escondido is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing San Pasqual: they outscored them in every quarter. Escondido took down San Pasqual 50-34 on Tuesday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Escondido's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anaya McGlory, who went 10-for-24 to rack up 28 points and eight boards. That's the most points McGlory has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Naomi Gutierrez, who dropped a double-double with 11 rebounds and 11 steals.

Escondido was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Ramona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat. They took a blow against San Marcos, falling 78-13. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1275th, while the Knights are ranked 294th).

Ramona's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Escondido, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.

Everything came up roses for Escondido against Ramona when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured a 52-20 win. In that matchup, Escondido amassed a halftime lead of 31-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
