Wisner-Pilger hasn't had much luck against Oakland-Craig recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gators will be home for the holidays to greet the Knights at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Wisner-Pilger came up short against North Bend Central and fell 42-35.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jesa Montgomery, who posted ten points and five rebounds. Emerson Bellar was another key player, putting up 12 points and five steals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oakland-Craig). They breezed past Winnebago to the tune of 74-42 on Tuesday. The Knights pushed the score to 68-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians cut but never quite recovered from.
Oakland-Craig's win came from a few key players Wisner-Pilger will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sonya Guzinski, who had 18 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. Those eight steals gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Briar Ray, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds.
Oakland-Craig was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Oakland-Craig and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points over those games. As for Wisner-Pilger, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wisner-Pilger has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Oakland-Craig struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wisner-Pilger took a serious blow against Oakland-Craig when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 65-31. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Gators were down 37-13.
