Gridley took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 24-6 victory over the University Prep Panthers. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 24-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Gridley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Punzo, who rushed for 90 yards on only 12 carries, and also threw for 37 yards and two touchdowns. Riley Engleman was in the mix too, providing the Bulldogs with two scores.

Gridley's run defense was locked in: University Prep could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Saulo Ramirez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Gridley didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.5.

Gridley's defense didn't let Talis Payne., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Gridley got some further help from Jason Davis Jr.: he picked up a sack, made six total tackles (5.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gridley will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Winters at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for University Prep, they will face off against Corning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
