Effingham County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They skirted past the River Ridge Knights 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Rebels as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Effingham County got a great performance from Kyle Thomas as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Thomas has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Effingham County let Kaleb Pendley and Newton Kieffer run wild. Pendley went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Kieffer went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits Pendley has posted since back in April.

Effingham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matchups.

Effingham County's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 30-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for River Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 23-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Knights beat Effingham County by a score of 2-0 later that day.
