Basketball Game Preview: Serra Cavaliers vs. Banning Pilots

The Serra Cavaliers will be taking part in a tournament against the Banning Pilots at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Serra has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Serra is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Bishop Amat on Tuesday as Serra made off with a 71-51 win. The Cavaliers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Serra found their leader in sophomore Mariyah Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaicia Snelson, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and five steals.

Serra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Banning beat Santee 48-36 last Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pilots.

Serra better keep an eye on Joshlyn Harris. She was instrumental in Banning's win, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 20 rebounds. With that strong performance, Harris is now averaging an impressive 12.5 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Gonzales, who posted eight points and three steals.

Serra's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Banning, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2.
