Basketball Recap: Winside Gets the Win

Winside won the last time they faced Creighton and Aftyn Schutt did her part to make sure it happened again. The Wildcats came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 49-40 on Friday with plenty of help from Schutt, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. She also grabbed four steals, which is notable because Winside is 2-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 0-3 otherwise.

Another player making a difference was Hadleigh Schutt, who posted eight points in addition to six boards and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played.

Despite the defeat, Creighton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Claire Meyer dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 boards set a new season-high mark for Meyer. Aspen Fulton was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Winside's record is now 2-4. As for Creighton, the loss was their first on the road, dropping their record down to 3-3.

Winside has already played their next game, a 63-24 defeat against Crofton on the 22nd. As for Creighton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-30 loss against Niobrara/Verdigre on the 20th.
