Softball Recap: Palisade Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Palisade's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Niwot Cougars 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

MacKenzie Gray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lexi Trottier was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jamyson Mancuso was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Palisade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Palisade is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Niwot, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Looking ahead, Palisade will venture away from home to challenge Eagle Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.87 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Niwot, they will be playing at home against Broomfield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
