Soccer Game Preview: Mayfair vs. Downey

The Mayfair Monsoons will face off against the Downey Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Mayfair's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Mayfair fell victim to La Mirada and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Matadores. While losing is never fun, the Monsoons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 686th, while the Matadores are ranked 317th).

Meanwhile, Downey fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Paramount on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 2-1. The Vikings' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Downey's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-10-2. As for Mayfair, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11-3.
