Kearney is 8-2 against Lincoln Southeast since October of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bearcats will venture away from home to square off against the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Lincoln Southeast took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Kearney, who comes in off a win.
Kearney's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Gering 13-0. Considering the Bearcats have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Longshore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Jacobsen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Lee, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Kearney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gering only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln North Star faced off in a cross-town battle on Saturday. The Knights came up short against the Navigators, falling 11-3. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Navigators recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Raina Waller was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Makhya Jay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Kearney and bumps their season record up to 18-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Lincoln Southeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-22.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kearney hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .412. However, it's not like Lincoln Southeast struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kearney took their win against Lincoln Southeast when the teams last played last Friday by a conclusive 16-6 score. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
