Basketball Recap: Taft Takes a Loss

Taft lost against Birmingham back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Taft Toreadors took a blow against the Birmingham Patriots, falling 70-4. The Toreadors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-1.

Lili Martinez went supernova for Birmingham, as she made all 7 shots she took for 16 points. Thanks to that strong game, Martinez now owns an excellent 41.7% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Kayla Tanijiri, who posted ten points and three steals.

Taft's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Birmingham, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Looking ahead, Taft will venture away from home to challenge Chatsworth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Taft is facing Chatsworth at the right time seeing as Chatsworth is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Birmingham, they will host Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Birmingham's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 12 matchups.
